MAYFAIR SOFTWARE

Skills

The company specialises in analysis, programming and design using the Uniface 4GL.

What we do

Over the years, we have worked with clients ranging from one-man companies to multi-million pound international organisations on a variety of projects, but all of them involving Uniface.

Often clients need new systems to be written or existing systems to be converted at very short notice, for example, regulation changes might be imminent. We pride ourselves on being able to quickly understand a client's business needs and, if need be, the functionality of their current systems.

Sometimes clients are short of expertise or manpower and need us to take over the maintenance or enhancement of their systems.

Examples of work

Logistics

A leading international logistics services company asked us to write a system for sending packages imported into the country through to customs clearing. This was accomplished within very tight timescales.

A year later , following the success of the earlier work, we were asked to write a new system to enable the client to be compliant with NCTS , a new European-wide system designed to provide better management and control of Community and Common Transit.

Local Government

Over the last few years there has been a government initiative to provide E-Voting services to the General Public. The standard interchange of data between parties associated with the election process is performed using EML (Elections Mark-up Language), a set of data and message definitions described in schemas adopting XML principles.

We were asked by a leading local authority solutions provider to convert its current Elections system so that it could handle E-Voting and also enable it to produce, and in some cases receive, EML relating to Candidates, Electors and Election Events. The initial EML was produced using Uniface and DTDs, and the final conversion accomplished using XSLT.

Some time later, we were asked to bring the client’s Licensing system in line with imminent regulation changes and then write an Appeals, Development Control, Enforcements and Tree Preservation Orders system to be used by their client the Northern Ireland Planning Service.

The work was carried out both at the client’s site and at Mayfair Software’s office.

Fleet Management

We designed and wrote a Relief Car System for a leading international car-hire firm to interface with a large number of existing COBOL systems and provide an automatic invoice matching / rebilling facility.
